Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Named Business of the Year
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, FL (NOVEMBER 20, 2009) - Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex was crowned business of the year Thursday night at the 18th annual FLORIDA TODAY Volunteer Recognition Awards ceremony in Brevard County,Fla. Local business leaders, community leaders and volunteers gathered to honor the finalists and winners during a reception and awards presentation. NASA’s director of Kennedy Space Center, Robert Cabana, attended the event to show his support.
Bill Moore, chief operating officer for Delaware North at the visitor complex,accepted the award on behalf of the company and fellow employees. “There’s so much need in this community,” said Moore. “It’s very humbling.”
During the awards program, Kennedy Space Center was recognized for its dedication to community service, education efforts and improving small businesses. Also noted was the leadership example set by senior management, who are involved in a wide variety of charitable organizations.
KSCVC supports Make-A-Wish Foundation, American Red Cross and United Way, as well as a number of other nonprofit organizations. This year’s Salute to Brevard Residents weekend resulted in the collection of more than 16 tons of food for the local community. The largest fundraising event at Kennedy Space Center, the annual United Way campaign, raised more than $42,000 in 2008 and was matched by the Delaware North Companies Foundation for a total
contribution of more than $85,000 to United Way.
Brevard County’s local United Way organization submitted the nomination on behalf of Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. The Volunteer Recognition Awards were created to recognize the countless hours and endless contributions individuals, businesses and organizations make to the community every day.
